It is amazing how quick time goes by, when
organising your special day – your Wedding!
Traditionally we have found that most couples don’t
realise how far in advance they need to start organising their
wedding invitations. Many couples think about their designs
but often don’t choose an invitation company and design
early enough.
Not allowing enough time has a number of
drawbacks including: it can end up costing you more for an
urgent production run; you may not have enough time to get
all of the invitations out on time which means rushing your
guests to RSVP; you might upset your reception venue by not
being able to finalise numbers early enough. These are just
a few of the potential problems that can easily be avoided
by starting early.
We recommend that you begin actively looking
for invitations at least 6 months prior to your wedding.
Below is a traditional timeline that you
might like to consider.
| Wedding Date |
- |
Wedding Date |
| 1 month before |
- |
Reception venue requires confirmation of no. of people
attending |
| |
|
Placecards need to start being printed (especially if
you are having guest names printed) |
| 6 weeks before |
- |
RSVP required back. Some people will always be late,
so may need to chase them. |
| |
|
Traditionally guests are given 6 weeks to RSVP. This
also allows them enough prior notice so they don’t
make other plans on the same date as your wedding! |
| 12 Weeks before |
- |
Last invitations is handed out (only 2 weeks to hand
out all those invitations?). |
| 14 Weeks before |
- |
Invitations collected started to be given to guests |
| 20 Weeks before |
- |
Invitations are approved, prototype viewed, artwork
signed off, and begin being made. |
| |
|
It is important to order the right number of invitations
now. It is even better to order a few more than you originally
thought, as it is often more expensive to have a couple
extra made at a later date. |
| |
|
Most invitation suppliers work on 6 weeks, a few even
work on a minimum of 8 weeks!. Sometimes this can be shorter
but it depends on your invitation and how many other weddings
they are working on at the time. |
| 22 Weeks prior |
- |
Invitation design is chosen and the company chosen are
informed and confirmed. All artwork is prepared, including
a full prototype (if the company you choose includes one). |
26 Weeks prior
(6 months) |
- |
Begin viewing invitations by visiting different invitations
companies. |
| |
|
Comparing designs, quality, service, complete package
pricing etc. |
| |
|
Make sure your quotes include everything! This includes
matching envelopes for invitations and RSVP, printing
of guest names, printing of RSVP envelope. |
The timeline is a guide only. Used above,
it should easily work in with whichever invitation company
you are using and wherever you have chosen to have your reception.
