Cakes - How much cake to serve 80 Guests
These wedding cake questions and answers have been taken from the wedding forum.
Q. I'm not sure if this has been asked, but I was just wondering, for about 80
people, how much cake (layers, size etc) should I have if its to be served for
dessert with ice cream?
I'm thinking of having either chocolate mud cake or those little butterfly cupcakes.
A. Hi Jade,
According to the Cake Decorator's Association, 80 guests for desert should require:
2 tiers:
11 inch square and a 8 inch square serves 83 guests
3 tiers:
12 inch round, 9 inch round and a 6 inch round serves 88 guests
11 inch square, 8 inch square and a 5 inch square serves 91 guests
This is just a guide and if your looking at having the top tier to keep for your first anniversary you will need a larger cake which in turn will also up the price. The above serving size for desert is based upon a cake cut 2 inches by 1 inch plus the height of the cake. If your choosing mud cake also keep in mind your guests won't require a huge slice as mud cake is very rich, especially if ice cream is served on the side.
Hope I've been of some help.
