Wedding Cakes - Floral Arrangements

These wedding cake questions and answers have been taken from the wedding forum.

Q. Hi, I was just wondering with a single tier wedding cake I have a couple of options on what sort of floral arrangements to go on top so I just want to ask what would look better when done. It will be a chocolate mud cake with white sugar icing and pink ribbon around the outside, and the flowers will match my bouquet.

1. Rectangle cake with an oblong floral arrangement
2. Square Cake with a round or square floral arrangement

I appreciate any advice in which you can give.

A. Hi Chloe,

It really depends on what you would like. Both options will look lovely. I always ask my brides what their bouquet will look like and ask if they would like their cake to reflect the style of their flowers. Just an idea.

For example if your having a posie styled bouquet, perhaps the square cake with a mound of flowers on the top tier would compliment the best. Or if your having a teardrop bouquet, perhaps the oblong floral arrangement would compliment the best.

Other things to keep in mind is your table decorations. You could match the style of your cake in with your table decorations. The options are endless and really all comes down to what you want because it's your big day and should be the way you would like it.

Both will look gorgeous. The oblong arrangement is more of a classical style, while the round or square mound of flowers are more modern and very popular these days.

I would suggest speaking with your cake decorator and asking his/her opinion. They should spend a bit of time with you and your fiancee to get a feeling for the atmosphere you are wanting to create at your wedding and then reflect that style into your cake. If your cake decorator is not much more of assistance, please feel free to ask me more questions and I'll be happy to help you further.

Thanks Chloe
